Not every project needs all three. CUTEK® Wood Reviver restores weathered, gray, or stained wood and removes mill glaze from new lumber — use it before the first coat of Extreme. CUTEK® Quickclean is a general-purpose outdoor cleaner for routine maintenance between coats. Do I need to buy all three prep products?
No. Which prep product you need depends on your wood’s current condition: Wood Reviver for weathered or discolored wood, Quickclean for routine maintenance cleaning, and Wood Stripper only if you’re removing an old paint or film-forming finish. See our prep guide to figure out which applies to you.
Can I buy CUTEK® Extreme without any prep products?
Yes. If your wood is already properly prepped — clean, bare, and free of old coatings — you can order CUTEK® Extreme on its own. Most projects on previously finished or weathered wood will need at least one prep step first for the oil to penetrate properly.
What’s the difference between CUTEK® Extreme and a traditional deck stain?
CUTEK® Extreme is a penetrating oil, not a surface film. It diffuses into the wood fiber rather than sitting on top of it, so it won’t peel, crack, or flake the way film-forming stains eventually do. Learn more on our How CUTEK Works page.
How much CUTEK® Extreme do I need?
Coverage depends on the wood’s age, species, and how much it absorbs — new, sanded hardwood can cover 400–800 sq. ft. per gallon per coat, while older, drier, or rough-sawn wood absorbs more and covers less.
